Between 2002-2005, East & North East has been recognized as the fastest growing IT destination in the country with more than double growth rate than the national average growth rate. Information Technology has been accorded top priority by many of the state govt. A number of IT majors are today doing significant business in East & North East such as TCS, Cognizant, IBM, WIPRO, Infosys, Capgemini etc are doubling their manpower strength at their facilities in these states.

Given the immense economic potential of these States, this region can emerge as one of the most prominent investment zones in the near future. Robust future growth will definitely be propelled by Services sectors like IT & ITeS, among others. Thus, it is necessary that the state Govt. facilitates the sustainable growth of IT & ITeS and ensures smooth functioning of the sector by taking the right steps and actively implementing declared policies & procedures.

IT Policies of different states:

There are several factors, which are favorable in this region like large pool of good English speaking boys and girls contributing to majorly to the manpower of the BPO industry of the country. lower cost of manpower in this region compared to Chennai, Pune, Gurgaon, Noida etc. and closeness to home will lead to lesser attrition. ICC feels that it is important to have companies like Infosys in other States of this region, apart from global majors like Texas Instruments and Intel. Existing companies must be encouraged to undertake capacity additions. Better infrastructure, necessary enabling policies that can drive growth, implementation of those policies, and the will to make IT the engine of growth for every state’s economy, will definitely create new avenues of income and employment opportunities
