The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is the leading and only National Chamber of Commerce operating from Kolkata and is reckoned as one of the most forward-looking chambers of the country today. The ICC has been working pro-actively towards creating a conducive and sustainable environment to enable social, industrial and economic growth of the country through policy advocacy and has been contributing effectively towards facilitating business since 1925. The ICC has also been engaging in various initiatives in different parts of the country and abroad with a view to extend all possible services to our Members and Industry Players to enhance their competitiveness.
The Indian Chamber of Commerce headquartered in Kolkata, over the last few years has truly emerged as a national Chamber of repute, with full-fledged offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Agartala, Siliguri and Ranchi functioning efficiently, and building meaningful synergies among Industry and Government by addressing strategic issues of national significance.
The ICC offers two categories of membership. The Corporate Group Membership and the Ordinary Membership
Membership with the ICC can ensure strong liason with the people and businesses of interest nationally as well as internationally. Members can also leverage their association in settlement of issues related to taxation and out of court dispute settlement which is catered to through our Economic Affairs and Taxation and Arbitration and Legal Affairs teams. Members of Export houses benefit from the discounted rates in issuing Certificate of Origin and Globalised Visa Recommendations especially to countries like Bangladesh and other south East Asean Countries.
The membership of the Chamber comprises several of the largest corporate groups in the country, with business operations all over the country and abroad. Set up by a group of pioneering industrialists led by Mr. G.D. Birla, the ICC was closely associated with the Indian Freedom Movement, as the first organized voice of the indigenous Indian Industry. Several of the distinguished industry leaders in India, such as Mr. B.M.Birla, Lala Karamchand Thapar, Mr. Russi Mody, Mr. Sanjiv Goenka, Mr. Ashok Jain, Mr. Vishambhar Saran, Mr. Jayanta Roy Mr. Shrivardhan Goenka, Mr. Rajiv Mundhra, Mr. Roopen Roy have led the ICC as its President.
The ICC constituents mainly include large manufacturing and service units with operations all over the country. A large number of corporate bodies of India form the backbone of the organization. Leading industrial promotion organizations, banks & financial institutions, as well as governmental organizations, happen to be members of ICC lending a highly diversified membership base to the Organization.
As a Chamber, amongst the many sectors that we a cover, we have a special focus on energy and power, mining and metals, oil and gas, agri and food processing, infrastructure & urban development, environment and healthcare, travel & tourism initiatives, entertainment and media, IT Initiatives, Promotion of MSME Sector, Higher Education, HR, Skill development & training programmes, Insurance, Banking, Mutual Fund & Finance, logistics and external trade and WTO issues.
Development of the North East is an area to which the ICC accords topmost priority, citing on the enormous opportunities that the region boasts to offer to the investors. In general, ICC events are looked at with high prominence from India Inc. and provide the grandest platforms for business houses to network with their relevant stakeholders to help our investors identify with the most prominent and relevant investment destinations in the countries of East and South East Asia.
